From my house to yours!

I know it seems like forever since I have posted here, but in reality it's only been a couple of weeks. I have been extremely busy just like the rest of the world preparing for the Christmas season that is fast approaching us. I have finally finished decorating the outside of my house and putting up my Christmas tree. And, with all of these chores behind me, it's time to finally finish this poor 10" santa. As a result of the preparation for the season, he had to be put in the back burner for a little bit. Although, inbetween working on everything, he does have hands and one foot. LOL Poor fella. I'm hoping now that I have completely caught up with myself, I can lend the little fella another foot and a body this week. Perhaps, I'll even has his clothes finished too. Wouldn't that be wonderful!

I did want to drop in here to atleast show you the lights on the outside of my house. Keep in mind, in sunny Florida, you'll find no snow here, but you will find a lot of Christmas spirit and holiday cheer. :-) And to think....these are just the outside of the house! Can you imagine the inside! HO! HO! HO!

Now, with that said, it is also time to make room in the studio for the upcoming year. Today, I have started to list up my dolls on Ebay auction. Among the first are the Santa's that are still available. And my little Christmas candy elf, Skittles. Here are the auction links for those that might be interested in taking a peek to see what is up there.

I will be listing more ornaments later this week. Just not tonight. It is now too dark to take more pictures and they are still packed from the table display I did last night in Tavares for the Light Up Tavares event. That was a lot of fun, but kind of chilly to stand outside for about 4-5 hours. It was also pretty crowded and kids full of excitement. Which, I admit, made me a little nervous with having my dolls displayed out in the open like I was. Nothing more scarier than an over excited kid that goes charging by your table display a little too closely. Instead of visions of sugar plums....I was nearly looking at a few broken dolls on a couple of occassions. Yes, it was a little stressful, but, it was fun at the same time.

Anyway, I'm off to work on a santa now. Wishing you all the best of a Sunday evening!

Hugs,
Lori

The next in line!

Yes, it is time to get back to work again! And you are all invited to come and see what is going on inside the studio.

This time around on the dollmaker's bench is a 10" Santa Claus. Atleast, I'm hoping my measurements are right! This special fella has been commissioned by a lovely family in Mexico. Their 2 absolutely adorable children have been patiently waiting for me to finish up the spring fairy so that I could begin on this wonderful character to kick off their holiday festivities. In the meantime, their mom, Gaby, has cleared out a special sitting spot inside of her curio cabinet and is now waiting for this handsome Santa.

With so many smiles riding on the line for this little guy, I sure hope I can keep them there and everyone happy in the end with the final doll. It was a request to make him a winking Santa. Let me tell you though, if you have ever tried to recreate a fascial feature that worked the first time around perfectly, you would think it should work the same the next time around, right? WRONG. I think I must have gone through 100's of faces before I finally settled on this face that I have finally ended up with. I had no idea how difficult it would prove to be. The first one came easy enough as a happy accident, so surely, the next one should have came along the same way. Even though it proved to be a lot harder than I initially thought it would be, I think I come out with a likeable Santa face in the end. You will have to let me know what you think of the progress so far. I would love to hear your feedback. Here are the pics of this Santa so you can critique him for me. Of course, I took the pics inside my house a bit ago, and as you know, I have the worlds crappiest lighting in my house! :( But, I think they are good enough to get a general idea as to what he looks like so far.

Well, now that he has had his head unveiled, I think I will leave you good folks to ponder the situation for a while. In the meantime, I'm gonna go work on some hands for this fella while I still have a few hours before heading off to bed.

Hugs to all,
Lori

Spring Fairy Commission

I know it's been rather quiet here lately, but I can assure you I have been hard at work trying to complete a wonderful fairy commission. I have finally finished her! I am very pleased with her and am now waiting on word on if she meets the approval of the client. Talk about sitting on the edge of your seat! I am not in the least bit worried as I think she came out very well. But, then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What more can I say. *shrug*

Anyway, now that we have had the "unveiling" with the "prospective owner" I feel it is now safe to give you all a glimpse of what you have been waiting for these past couple of weeks. I do hope you all like her. I will say this much, I do not think the pictures do her the justice that she deserves. She is far prettier than the pictures allow. But, I will let you all be the judge of that!

I called her "Kiele", which I believe is pronounced (kylee), it is a hawaiian name meaning "fragrant blossom". She reminded me of flowers blooming in spring and so, it's how she got her name. If there is someone out there that know if I'm pronouncing the name correctly, or wrong for that matter, I would love to hear from you!

Without further adieu, here is "Kiele". I would love to hear your comments......good or bad!

Well, now that you have seen what has tied me up over the last couple of weeks, it is time to set off to the next commission piece. It will be a 10" santa for a very special family in Mexico. They are eagerly awaiting the arrival of St. Nick there, so I must grab my hot cocoa and start thinking of Christmas thoughts to set the right mood for the oocassion. :-)

I hope to find you all doing well the next time I see you. Hopefully, I'll not be gone as long the next time.

Take care to all,
Lori

4 more Santa ornaments on Ebay!

Since I am busy trying to finish up this special commissioned fairy, I thought I would keep you all entertained with some more running auctions on Ebay. I have just added 4 more Santa Claus ornaments to the list; so now there are 6 in total running up on Ebay at the moment. I also added the merbaby "Orion" that I pictured here a couple weeks ago.

This time I was able to get some pictures of them outside in the natural light of the day. So, they are much better quality photos, and that makes me a happy camper! I'll be adding more ornaments later on next week up for auction, so if you do not see one that you have fallen in love with just yet, hold on to your britches as there are plenty more to come in the next couple of weeks. I'm sure before long, you will fall in love with their whimsical old world fashioned santa faces. :-)

Here are the next 4 pics and their auction links:

Now that we have the Santa ornaments taken care of, I thought I'd now add another picture of Orion and his auction link as well, in case anyone was interested in the little tyke! He was the little fella I completed a couple of weeks ago.

Santa Claus Christmas Ornaments on Ebay!

It's been a few days since I have been able to get back to this blog of mine. I have had a lot of catching up to do with the few shows I have had lately. I've been extremely busy working on a special order for a wonderful lady. Unfortunately, I do not have WIP pics this time, but, I will be certain to post pictures of her completed. I have a feeling she will be a beautiful doll once she is finished.

Now, for the good stuff! As you all know, I had been extremely busy creating many wonderful one-of-a-kind Santa ornaments in preparation of the season. I decided to begin listing the Santa ornaments a couple at a time on Ebay before I'm stuck with a buttload of these things. I would much rather see them hanging on a nice tree this Christmas than to be bringing tidings of joy and good will to the inside of a box! HO HO HO! If anything else, it's fun to watch the auctions run their course. LOL It might still be a little too early, but, with the shipping times and all, you have to make allowances. *shrug*

So here are the first 2 available for auction! If you are interested, you will find the links below. Remember, these are indeed one-of-a-kind pieces. If you purchase the ornament, you will get the exact ornament you see in the auction.

At any rate, I hope everyone is doing fine these days and stocking up for their delicious Thanksgiving meals and family gatherings. The holidays are always such a busy time of year for everyone. Come to think of it, I need to start pulling out my Christmas lights soon and start decorating the outside. I have to admit, as much as I like seeing my house decorated like the Griswald house from the National Lampoons Christmas vacation, I sure as heck hate putting it all up and taking it all down! Especially living in Florida where it is so hot and humid all the time. Kind of takes the fun out of thinking of winter chills, Jack Frost, and snow. Think more cold thoughts, think more cold thoughts, think more cold thoughts! *shrug* I was hoping it would bring in a cold front or two. hehe Better luck next time I suppose.

Well, back to working on the fairy! Take care all, and I'll be seeing you real soon!

Hugs,
Lori

Finally! The Wicked Witch is finished!

Hello everyone here in blogland! The day has arrived!

I know you all have been hanging off the edge of your seats waiting for this wicked witch to be finished. I was truly sorry she could not make her debut on Halloween night with the rest of the scary witches, but, heh, better late than never! She was a lot of work, but, I think she was well worth it. I had a great time making her, even if she was not finished by my deadline. Even the best laid plans can go astray sometime.

So, now, the long-awaited details! I call the Halloween Duo "Helspeth and Catnip", after all, what is a witch unless she has her familiar with her? Helspeth measures 14.5" tall without her hat, and she is a pose able doll. Her head, hands and feet were sculpted from super sculpey and painted with acrylic paints. She has a cloth body with wire armature. Her hair is made from natural lambs wool and feels just as wicked as it looks. She has hazel colored glass eyes. Her clothing is custom made and is not removable and consists of a satin shirt, striped cotton underpants/bloomers that are fit for a witch of her stature, and a overdress and her witches hat, made out of a special designer fabric that looks like it has seen years of use. She comes complete with her special broom and her potion. Her potion is made out of a glue-type substance that glows in the dark! Yes, it really does glow a nice green color! I tried to take a picture of it, but the pic might be hard to see the glow. *shrug*

As for Catnip, he is also made of super sculpey and painted with acrylic paints. He measures about 3.25" tall. The entire display measures at 20" tall and 12" x 9" base bottom. Helspeth is removable from her stand, and so is Catnip. The potion bottle is permanently fixed to her hand, but her broom is not.

Anyway, I would love to hear your feedback on what you think of my Helspeth and Catnip! I know the picture quality is not the best. Seems like I am having the devil of a time trying to take pictures lately. At any rate, I think they are well enough to get a good idea. :-)

Enjoy!

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed the pictures! If anyone is interested in this doll, please feel free to contact me. I will be at Lake Square Mall in Leesburg, Florida, on Thursday evening, November 5 from 6 pm-9 pm with my display for their event "Ladies Night Out". I will have her at the display along with my other dolls that are available. At the moment, I'm not sure where in the mall I will be located, but if you are interested in seeing this doll or any of my other dolls in person, they would be delighted to meet you! If you live in the neighborhood, stop by and say hi as I would be so happy to meet you!

Well, off to the next project! Stay tuned for the next set of WIP pictures.

Take care,
Lori

Almost there!

No pics yet, but wanted to let everyone know we are drawing to a conclusion on our wicked witch. I have FINALLY finished her costume. I did a lot of swapping and rearranging and swapping and rearranging...but after much witchery, we are now finally happy with our appearances. lol

And, there has to be something said for the doll-maker that will put hair on a dolls head in the middle of the Houston Astros training stadium in Kissimmee at your son's baseball tournament game on Halloween night by the light of nearly lit full moon, especially if that doll is a Halloween witch. :-D Talk about something special. Well, she no longer has a bald pumpkin head, and I have to say, her hair do really makes the doll, along with her outfit. I admit, I am VERY proud of this doll as she came out way better than I expected her to.

Now, all that is left are her props and her stand/base. I will work on all of these items when I come home from work tomorrow. I will probably not have pictures ready tomorrow, since it will take some time to finish these last few bits up. But, hopefully on Wednesday, I will have some final pics. Now that it is getting darker outside much earlier, it is hard to find the time to get out and get pics before it gets too dark. There is something to be said for those wonderful lucky artist who have a real working studio that they can take pics whenever they want to in the wee hours of the morning even. I can only dream of having that availability to me. But, until I am a well-off doll maker and can afford to convert my detached 2 car garage into a working studio, I'll have to settle for the small stream of sunlight in the open air of my front porch for my photo shoots. :-)~

Anyway, stay posted as it will not be much longer!

Many hugs,
Lori

Wicked Witch update

Here it is, Halloween and I'm sad to say, my poor little wicked witch will be unable to take flight tonight. What a terrible travesty this is. What is a witch who can not satisfy the itch, to fly on Halloween night! Oh, my, what will she ever do? Her broom has not been found yet, and her clothing is still at the tailors! And, of course, she missed her appointment to the hair dresser on top of all this! This is, indeed, a sad state of affair. I suppose, she will go and take in a baseball game instead with a towel wrapped around her head!

It is true, I have not finished her yet as I had hoped I would have been able to do. Unfortunately, this week has been a very chaotic week, and even though I have worked hard on her, things just didn't fall together as I had planned. I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when you have a kid in high school and your plans automatically become their plans. LOL Such is life, and the way of the world. I'll only be able to live these high school moments for one more year after this. So, I might as well relish them as they come. My boy managed to get picked up to play this weekend on a travel ball team for a tournament in Kissimmee, playing at the Houston Astros training facility. Last night, he played on the actual field that the spring training games are played on prior to the start of the major league season. That was a lot of fun as the sports complex and the field is beautiful. Today, we will be out there again playing ball. So, with all the travel time, and the down time in between games, that put me behind on my poor wicked witch. Sad to say, but, a baseball mom has to do what a baseball mom does best! Root for the team! :-) Win or lose, we'll have a great time.

Anyway, I wanted to give you the updated pics of this wicked witch before I head off to get ready for ball games today. Her body seems a little too skinny, but her clothing will make up the bulk of it. So never mind her scrawniness. And, of course, she is more bald than a pumpkin in these shots! I think a pumpkin has more hair than she does at the moment. lol But, atleast you can now see her boots....minus her shoe strings, as I'll do them after her costuming is finished. I don't want her tripping over them as we fidget with the costume. hehe

I hope you like the update, hopefully, I'll have her finished early this week. But, I'm afraid this weekend has been shot out of the murky Halloween waters due to baseball tournament games.

I hope everyone has a safe Halloween, and has as many fun tricks as they have yummy treats!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

On to the next stage!

Our wicked witch is coming along nicely. I finished sculpting her boots/legs last night and now we are moving on to the painting stage today.

If things go the way I expect them too, perhaps she will have a body tonight. I already have her armature made, so once she has been painted, she'll be able to cut a rug after I assemble her. Though, she might be naked. rofl I'll spare you folks with a butt load of pictures for now. I think I'll take more after her body is assembled. We'll see.

Anyway, I have to go do some wife chores so I can get back into the studio and get back to work. It's hard when you work your day job, then come home and do your creative job. Sometimes, it feels like there are not enough hours in a day. *sigh* It is what it is I suppose.

Catch ya later,
Hugs,
Lori

Wicked Witch Update!

As promised, I have some new updated pics of this fancyful wicked witch. Her head has been fully sculpted now, and she also has a pair of hands as well! I have yet to paint them, but I'll do all of the painting after I have sculpted her feet/legs.

At any rate, I don't have a lot of time to write this time since I'm still trying to get caught up on my Mommy and Wife chores from over the weekend, but wanted to drop these bread crumbs in here to tantalize your taste buds.

I hope you like the progress so far. She has proven to be a very fun project to work on so far. I only hope she turns out like I expect her to. hehe

And, of course, at the same time, I am busy working on a special commission piece too. I have not posted pics of her yet, but I'll post some of her once she is finished. Hopefully, I'll have her finished soon too. So many deadlines, and so little time! If only I didn't have to go to work in the morning! One of these days I swear I'm gonna make doll making a full time job! Right now, it's the fun full time job that gets in the way of my part-time job. hehe

Talk to you all soon!

Lori

A very large update!

Oh, gee, where do I start. Hmmm, let me see.

Well, I suppose I'll start with my WIP update. A few days ago, I decided to do a fun project. I started with the head as per my normal routine. I have finished sculpting the head already, but it is not painted just yet and has no hair on it's bald little head. I have yet to take a new updated picture of it's progress. But, in the meantime, I want to show you the beginning. Keep in mind, it is at it's very early stages at this point in time. She, yes, she, will be a Halloween Witch! Let's see if I can get her finished in time for her to catch flight on her broom on All Hallow's Eve! Stay tuned, because she will be ever changing!

witch wip1

witch wip2

But, of course, with all the craziness of the past few days with the one day show, etc. her progress was abruptly halted. I only found out a few days ago that I would be able to do the one day event. So, in my haste to make things just right and wanted to have a full display, I searched around trying to find a few fillers that I could wip up really quick. Well, I had a couple of baby heads just laying around in some boxes. So, I yanked them out and gave them bodies. I do hope they are happy with them. lol But, one of them, I did not take pictures of, as I have a feeling he might still morph a little further into...hmm, I haven't quite decided yet. But, I do feel he needs a little bit more work. On the other hand, I did finish one of them completely at 12:30 am last night. As you might know it...I'm one of those artist that has to cram something in at the last minute and of course, I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off! Can we say stress factor? I have to wonder why I do that to myself. Oh well. It is what it is. At any rate, here is one of the new babies I finished up. His name is Orion and he is a merbaby. I do hope you like him! It would be nice if he swam right into the hearts of someone and he found a new home to rest his scales. :-D

Now, after saying all of that, this last bit is for all the wonderful people that I met today at the show. First, I want to say thank you for stopping by my table and taking the time to meet and talk with me. I can not tell you how much I enjoyed talking to you all and sharing my artform with you. Your wonderful compliments really made my day and I am forever grateful for them and will carry your words in my heart. Each and everyone of you are such a huge encouragement to help me to continue on creating my one of a kind art dolls. Thank you with all of my heart! Hopefully, I will be able to return next year if the church does it again. I had such a fantastic time, that I look forward to bring in new sculpts for all of you to see.

Anyway, I thought I'd take a few pics of my display too. Sorry for the lighting, it was an indoor event, and apparently my camera just does not like indoor pics, or it is operator error; more than likely it is that later of the 2! lol. I'm not sure if you can see them on the table, but I have also added african american santa ornaments to my list of stuff. I only have a few at the moment since I was not sure how well they would go over. But, if I do see an interest in them, then it is something I might consider making more of.

Here is my table display:

Well, as you might imagine, I'm exhausted from todays events and think I need to go and turn into a vegetable on the couch in front of the tv. I have a feeling it will be an early bed time for me tonight. It is a good tired, and I gladly welcome it.

Thanks to all that made today a truly wonderful day. I really had a great time. I do have a couple more one day shows coming up that are locally. One in November and the other in December. I'll post more information on them later when I have more details. But, for now, I'm gonna check out the tv.

Hugs to all,
Lori

Mount Dora, Florida Craft Show

Hello Friends!

Hopefully now that I have left my studio space in a complete mess and my house in total disarray, I will finally find some gain to all my efforts of the past few weeks. Although, I am still not done making the mess as I have much more to do, I have done as much as I possibly could for tomorrow. Yes, that is right, tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, I will be in Mount Dora at the annual Craft Festival. It is a huge festival that has been happening annually now for.....hmmm, quite a few years and counting now.

Unfortunately, I will not be there for the entire weekend of the Craft Festival event, but, I will have a table displayed at the First Presbytarian Church on the corner of 6th Avenue and Alexander Street. The church decided to sponsor a small craft set-up to coincide with the craft festival happening outside in the neighboring streets. The small craft set-up will be inside the church. My table is located directly in the center of the room. I will have all of my available dolls there, as well as christmas ornaments. I will also have a couple of new pieces that have not been seen yet. I will be there from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

So, if you live in the area, and have time to swing by and see all the wonderful crafts out in the streets in downtown Mount Dora, please stop by the First Presbytarian Church as well to meet me and see the other crafters there too! And, please, introduce yourself to me as I would be delighted to meet you!

I look forward to seeing you there!

Hugs,
Lori

Woodland Pixie and Christmas Candy Elf: finished

Nothing like being on a roll. I've been busy getting things caught up and cleared out of the way these last couple weeks. It is amazing how quickly the tons of ideas that manifest on your desk waiting to be completed. Eventually, you get to the point where you must work your way back down to eye level again just so you can see a corner or two.

The first of this lot of items is the Woodland Pixie. Personally, I think she is uglier than home-made sin. But, you never know, there could be a pixie fella out there that finds her very attractive. The old adage that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" rings so true where she is concerned. Or, better yet, "a face that only a mother could love". Yep, this is the Woodland Pixie. The least she could have done was take a bath prior to her photo shoot. She had been tromping through the woods all day and so I'm afraid she is a bit of a mess. She thought she was being clever and tried to hide in her surroudings, but this little butterfly come along and pointed her out to me from her hiding place. Silly pixie! So, without saying a word about her bath, I quickly took her picture while she was busy with her new found friend.

Here are the pictures I managed to capture of her before she flew away to hide again.

Now, here are the updated pics of the christmas candy elf, "Skittles". Having good lighting is so important to take good pictures. Although I took these pictures outside, it was still overcast, making it a little darker outside than I had initially wanted. But, they are still far better than when I took them inside the last time I tried pictures. I think you will agree they are much better.

Those are the final 2 to show. I should have some more stuff up and coming soon! So keep checking. :-)

Hugs to all,
