Hobble on Ebay!

Wanted to post a link here for all that might be interested in Hobble. He is now up on Ebay for a 7 day auction. Be sure to add him to your watch list and cheer this cheeky little fella on!

Here is his auction link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120549685925&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

And, as promised, here is his story. I hope you enjoy it!

All the long day
Hobble set out to play,

Not thinking of food
playtime persude.

After a while
his hunger reviled,

his belly rumbled
complained and grumbled.

Wanting to be fed
down the path he tread,

searching for food
to set better it's mood.

His eyes opened wide
in the grass he did spy,

a pair of eggs so blue
in a moment he knew,

his tummy was blessed
thinking of breakfast.

With hands so quick
and a magician's trick

a mischeivous wink
he was gone in a blink,

grabbing up his treasure
and down the road in good measure.

On a mushroom he rested
with eggs gently nested,

the rumbling has seized
his belly now pleased,

with hunger at bay,
back off to play.

The eggs he did gobble
that cute little Hobble.

I thought I would have some new pictures up for you on the 3rd fairy I have been working on. I can tell you she is nearly completed with the exception of her clothing. I can't quite come to terms how I want to dress this cute little fae. Hopefully she will not be running amuck in her birthday suite for much longer. I plan on trying a few different things to make her decent for the camera. I can say this much though, I am quite pleased with how she has turned out so far. I think you will be too once she makes her debute for the world to see.

In the meantime, enjoy Hobble's story and I'll see you on Ebay!

I have yet to make little stories to accompany these little guys. The right words just have not had the opportunity to pop into my head just yet due to other factors in my life at the moment. But, in time I will a little poem to accompany the 2. If you are interested in further details on either of these 2 figures, please feel free to contact me. I will be registered through the IADR this coming week and will accompany their COA.

If everything goes accordingly, plan to have the next fairy completed this weekend as well. Please stay tuned for further details!

Thanks for stopping in and for your wonderful support as always.

Hugs,
Lori

Finally 2 new dolls finished!

I know all of you have waited what seems forever to see updates. So much has been going on in the last month that it was all I could do to keep up with everything at times it seems.

As you already know, we are in the thick of high school baseball season. That tends to slow ya down a bit when you have a child playing sports. Then there were the 10,000 birthdays...including my own this past Sunday. Yes, yes...I need to reach for the readers now. haha But that is alright, it makes doing the detail work a little easier.

Aside from that, it is hard to get nice pictures if it is overcast outside. Definitely need good lighting for fairly nice pictures.

At any rate, I'm gonna apologize that these pictures are huge as I don't have the time at the moment to resize them. As you would guess...I have a baseball game to get to. haha

So here is the first one, "Hobble". He doesn't have a story just yet, but I'm working on it. I hope you like this little fella.

Again, I apologize the pictures are so big. Once I get the time, I'll try to come back and do a little resizing.

Now, for the 2nd one. This was the "strolling fairy", now she is a "Gypsy Spirit". I am really pleased at how she come out. I hope you like her as well. I think you will find she was well worth the wait.

Well, those are the updates for the moment. I do have another fairy that is nearing completion as well. Hopefully she will be finished by this coming weekend. I think you will be very happy with her as well. After this upcoming fairy, I'll be working on a new project for a contest at www.ooakartdoll.com The theme is sculpting your "inner demon". So, I can tell you upfront not to expect anything pretty! The contest rules say pretty is not allowed, and it will be great fun to make something ugly! I have already ordered a selection of eyes for this project. I already know what I want to do for this demon so we'll have to see if it works out like I expect it too. I don't want to divulge too much information just yet. So sit tight. :-D

At any rate, I'm off to a baseball game. In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed the updates! (As a final note, I just took a peek at this posting and OH MY GOODNESS this pics are super huge. I promise I will take the time to adjust these by tomorrow. I'm really sorry they are super huge.)

Hugs to all,
Lori

A fun outing!

Unfortunately, no pictures to show anyone today. Though, I will have some VERY soon. I have 3 figures nearly completed. I'm on the final stages on a couple of them. I really can't wait to show you them. Hobbles is coming along better than I had expected, I think you will all love him. :-) As for the other 2, they are coming along nicely as well. One being the strolling fairy, and the other one that you have not seen a glimpse of just yet. The ball-jointed doll is on the back burner until I can finish these 3 figures. Once I get these finished...I'll be pulling my hair out over that one again. haha

At any rate, today is a bit of a break day. I am on my way out the door soon to go to Silver Springs and see Randy Travis in a nice outdoor concert! I am soooooo excited about this. My hubby decided to surprise me with an early birthday preset and got us some tickets to go and see him. At one point in time, I had told the hubby that if there was ever anyone that ever came in concert that I would love to go and see one day it would be Randy. Well, this day has finally come! I can tell you that I have wanted to see Randy Travis in concert since he first come out singing. That is a LOOOOONG time. haha I know not everyone likes his music...but, personally, I like his down-to-earth style. His music is simple, tells a nice story, and is from the heart. I like that. I hope I can get some pictures of him....that would be fantastic!

At any rate, I'm off to get ready as I have never been to Silver Springs either. Terrible shame to live in Florida nearly all my life and have never been there. It is supposed to be beautiful. I think I have long needed a day like today. The severe thunderstorms have cleared up after the last 2 days of nothing but hard rains and dreariness. Today is beautiful and the sun shining in all it's glory. It promises to be gorgeous for an outdoor show.

With that note, I'm off to see Randy Travis at Silver Springs. I hope all of you have a wonderful day full of excitement too!

Hugs to all,
Lori

Making waves and took the plunge!

As stated in my previous post, there have been changes on the way. As a result, I have not been able to post for a few days to keep you all updated as to my progress with all the changes. On top of that, my son came down with strep throat this week, so that put me back a few steps. It always seems like something. :-D

At any rate, you will be amazed at all of the accomplishments I have made this past week. I think my son being home sick has actually allowed me some time to get some things done since there were no baseball games for him. Can't play if you are sick. I'm sure the coach was not happy about that, but nothing can be done about it either. *sigh* I think the coach will get over it in time. haha

So, in my absence these past few days, I have managed to get a new Etsy shop up and running. You can find all of my available dolls and figures there for purchase at www.pixieknoll.etsy.com. I was surprised at how long it took to upload everything there. Hopefully, the new name will help in the selling of my dolls and figures.

The next thing that I accomplished was to recreate my website, including the new header that you see posted in all my links. The new site is now up and running with links to the blog here, the etsy store, and my email. You can find the website at www.thepixieknoll.com. And, of course, should you need to contact me to inquire about any of my work you can do that at lori@thepixieknoll.com.

And, finally, you will also see that I have made a small face-lift to the blog here. Just a minor change really, but it is nice to keep everything to a similar appearance. It's kind of crazy, but, it makes me feel better that way. haha My work table may be a clutter, but everything else is nice and neat! :-D

At any rate, these were not the only things I was able to get accomplished in the past few days. I also managed to get some painting done on the 2 upcoming sculpts, the strolling fairy and our cute little Hobbles. I also managed to get the props made for Hobbles, and now they are waiting to be painted. I will be working on costuming today on atleast one of them I think. Unfortunately, with all of the hustle and bustle in the past few days, I do not have pictures to show of the progress I have done. But, I think you all understand with everything else that I have accomplished. Also, I know there are a few folk that have been waiting patiently on a new figure I have been working on while at the baseball fields in the past couple of weeks. Yes, you read that right, I do have another piece I have not shown any pictures as of yet. I'm terrible, I know; but, I must beg for your forgiveness. As you know already, it feels like I'm on the run all over the place when the baseball season kicks in. Any of you that have kids in sports, I think you understand the rushing around and the "never being home" feeling. Yep, yep, that is what it is like. So, I end up taking a lot with me, and working on things on the run while at the games. So, anyway, just so those few who have seen that particular piece in progress, I have not forgotten about it. I have not really had much of an opportunity to work on her lately with all the other things going on. I intend to get the other 2 finished up first before going back to her. So, please be patient, and stay tuned because I will be posting her here soon enough.

Also, "Noor" the evening fairy did not sell on ebay on her last listing. So, I decided to lower her price to a starting bid of $100.00 on ebay. Here is her link to her auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120539984806&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

I am hoping she will sell so I can recoup on some of the expenses I have made for myself this past week, and I need to get some new business cards made up with the new website and such. So, it is a necessary evil that she sells.

On a final note here for the day, I want to say thank you to all who have encouraged me on the first leg of this journey. After carrying the previous name of lmpartdolls for 2 years, I was a little nervous to take the leap with the new name. But, today, I can tell you that I think I did the right thing. You know what they say, "sometimes change is good". I think they are right.

Anyway, before I can get started on anything, I have a few chores I must do today that HAVE to be done. So, I am off to the land of chores before I can romp in play in the knoll the rest of the day.

Have a good day!

Reinventing myself

As odd as that sounds, it is pretty much what I am in the process of doing at the moment. I am creating a new image for myself.

Over the last few months, I have given considerable thought as to the direction I wanted to go with my dolls. I have thought about the things I like to create, the things I like to see, what I aspire to do, and where I want to be in 5 years with it and so forth. I have thought about my A.S. degree in Graphic Design and how it seems to have been a waste of time in some aspects, and then I have thought about my talents as a fine arts artist too which have dwindled down to the back burner. One of the other things I had thought about was how a few of you wonderful young ladies had nudged me about my writing and how I should be writing books/short stories. I never thought about my writing much, other than I enjoyed writing. Probably it is a southern thing and I have the "gift of gab". hehe

Aside from this, there was a time, when I really wanted to illustrate children's books. But, oddly, I discovered that my talents in painting with pastels (my preferred medium of choice) and pen and ink illustration were mainly in painting realistic landscapes, animals, and architecture. Nothing at all that would have fit for child's book of illustrations. And, so, I let that little fantasy fall to the wayside. That is, until recently, when a HUGE lightbulb when off in my head! It was like my eureka moment!

So, I am going to share with you all, my Eureka moment. Now, keep in mind, it is not finalized yet as I am still working out the bugs here and there, but I can say that this is a definite direction I am leaning toward. I have already began some of the processess to put this into motion. I have also spoken to some of my closer friends here in my personal life for feedback, but as usual, you often wonder if they are REALLY being upfront and honest with you in their opinions. So, basically, that is what this post is all about.....honest to goodness feedback. I am not afraid of criticism, but what I am afraid of is losing my wonderful idea I am about to share with you all. Regardless of that point, I really need to take that risk and get some genuine and trustworthy feedback.

So, without further adieu, here it is:

First of all, I am changing my name from LMPartdolls to The Pixie Knoll. One of the biggest reasons for the name change is that I have found on numerous occassions that the current name is just too complicated for the average person to take in. Even though I used my initials, it was just too much for most people to deal with. The 2nd reason is that simply, it is just not fun....easy as that. And, so, The Pixie Knoll was born. I will continue to create my little figures, including the Santas, but I am now taking them to a new level. I will explain:

The Pixie Knoll, as you might have guessed is a place where all of these little creations will come from. Each one will have it's own little story that will correlate to the land of Pixie Knoll. Some stories may be very involved, and some only a short poem, but regardless, each will have some type of written word to go with the figure. Aside from this little idea, I also want to incorporate my painting skills. And here is where I am probably really going in to deep, due to my current time restraints. If I can manage it, I want to create a little back drop sketch or scenery with each figure. This will help to create the imagery of The Pixie Knoll and help to bring each character to life. Eventually, I will compile all of the characters and their stories and/or poems together and create them into a children's book and try to have it published. So, in the end of it all, I would have been able to stretch my design legs, still make my dolls, and be able to do that children's book I always wanted to do.

So, anyway, that is it in a nut shell. What I am looking for from all of you dear friends is honest input on the entire concept. I know that it will take me time to create each piece due to the amount of work that will be involved, but, my feeling is that the end results will be well worth the labor of love.

At any rate, here is my new psuedo website. Primarily, what I want you to read is the "home" page. It contains a poem that I wrote as an introductory to The Pixie Knoll. It will give you a little idea of my writing style is like as far as poetry is concerned.
the website is:

www.thepixieknoll.weebly.com
It is a free spot at the moment but enough to give you all the idea before I actually take the plundge.

Thanks for the comments...they will all be appreciated no matter how ugly they might be. Remember...be honest!

Hugs,
Lori
