Getting Ready!

It's almost show time again!  For those of you who do not know, I am in the process of completing several pieces to take along with me to the Quinlan Doll and Teddy Bear Show in Philadelphia, PA. The show will be held Thursday, May 1 to Saturday, May 3, 2014.  This show is a wonderful show that features ONLY one-of-a-kind dolls and teddy bears. So, if you are a collector that likes the uniqueness of a OOAK piece of work, then, this show is definitely for you!  For more information, please take a look here:  There will be a TON of wonderful artist there to meet and the chance to see their works up close.  So, if you live in the area or have an itch to travel to a show, this is one you do not want to miss.  Here is a sneak peak at one of the pieces I'll be bringing along to Quinlan:

As for myself, it's time to get back into the studio and get busy working.  Time is of the essence these days and that means no more time for procrastination! I am sometimes guilty of that little bad habit.  :(  Hopefully, this week will see some REAL progress in the studio.  Lately, my time has been tied up dealing with some personal "children" issues.  LOL to love them.  Even when they are grown, they are still kids, and we are always the parent.  :-P   But, they are our children and it is our responsibility to help them along in life when they need it.  Those are the sacrifices that we must make in life.  Unfortunately, that sacrifice has put me behind schedule and now I foresee some VERY sleepless nights ahead of me!  At any rate, I tend to work better under pressure so let's see what develops in the studio.  Aside from the big piece with 4 characters, there are 3 other pieces in the works at the same time.  Yes, I am a glutton for punishment.  With luck, they will all finish up about the same time.   Wish me luck...I have about 3.5 weeks to get them all complete!

And, on that note, I'm off to the studio!

Have a great day folks and thanks for following along here at The Pixie Knoll!

Spring has Sprung!

It's finally here...well, for some of us anyway.  I think it's been here for me for the last month since I live in Central Florida. There are flowers blooming all over the place and believe sinus' have known spring had arrived for a while now!

At any rate, with all the hustle and bustle of things growing outside; I have also prepared many plant clippings for new plantings that my new neighbor has bestowed upon me and some clipping of what I brought along from the old house that we just moved from.  I have so many clippings trying to take root that I probably could start a small garden nursery!  Ha, Ha!  Some of the things that are hopefully taking root and growing are some tabebuia trees, peach trees, some sort of jasmine-type tree, and some other varieties of jasmine both in bush form "crape jasmine" and vine form "confederate jasmine" aside from the tree, Plumeria (Hawaiian lei), brugmansia, raspberries, old fashioned hibiscus, navel orange tree and many, many other things.  Some of which I have no idea what the plant is called!  Anyway, hopefully, it will all grow and I will have some pictures to show with you later.  But, for the meantime, here are some examples of the plants I am growing.

Crape Jasmine bush

Peach Tree

Plumeria or Hawaiian Lei

At any rate, this is some of the reasons why I haven't been on here as much.  This and of course the every day hub bub of personal daily life that has to be taken care of.  Ever notice how the daily toil of life seems to get in the way of your creative time?

Aside from that, I truly have been extremely busy in the studio.   I've been springing around my studio hoping to get some of the projects sprung in time for the Quinlan Show coming up on May 1, 2014 in Philadelphia!  I realize I haven't had any WIP pictures to show you at this time, but believe me when I say that there is a lot of activity going on in The Pixie Knoll Studio.   Right now as we speak, I am working on my major show piece for Quinlan.  I don't want to give too much away right now because I want it to be a surprise for all of you, but suffice to say it is a major piece of work.  To give you a little bit of an idea of how major....the piece of work sits atop an 18" round piece of wood.  The central item of the project is about 2 feet tall, and aside from that, there are 4 figures that complete the entire piece.  The piece is laden with symbolic overtones to boot!  So stay tuned for this one.

Alongside that one,  I also have 3 others in the works as well.  All of which will be completed about the same time and are for my show at Quinlan.  Once they are complete, I'll put some pictures up, along with a few WIP pics too.  :-)  I hate to bore all of you with the progress.  I will say this much, all of these pieces have been wonderful fun to create so far and have really worked with my imagination.  I hope, once they are complete that you will all like them as much as I have liked bringing them to life.  :-)  I would think that I will be finishing these up by the end of the month to the middle of next month.  There will be a lot of pictures coming your way soon as I finish them up.

So, don't think I have forgotten all about you folks out there.  It truly has been crazy busy lately, and at times, somewhat chaotic too.   Once the madness of the Ides of March seize up, I will be more at peace in my creative skin and will have a ton of goodies to show you.  So, do stay tuned!

As always, thanks for following along here at The Pixie Knoll!
