Felting Fun with Fiber! Bring on the GNOME!!

As an artist, I am always exploring different mediums to use in my work.  Some new adventures fall to the way side for many different reasons, and then, there are others that turn out too cute not to share.

Which brings me to this post.  Earlier this year, when I was at the Quinlan Show in Philly, some of my doll making friends were talking about how addicting needle felting was to do.  At the time, I didn't give it much thought other than the fact of how cute some of the items were.  Never in my world of creating would I have thought that I would be taking up a felting needle to give it a whirl.  But, I did.  LOL

Funny enough, I already had a nice big package of felting needles tucked away in my stash of "stuff". There is no telling how long I have had these needles, or rather, what I had initially intended to use them for.  I wager that I was going to use them to root doll hair into cloth doll heads.  As you might have guessed, like most artistic people, I have tried many different mediums out there, including cloth doll making, before I landed into the world of polymer clay.

Anyway, since I have been busy working on Halloween projects for the Spirits in Sanford show event, I was needing a little break from the monotony.  A little "change of scenery" you might say to keep the creative juices flowing.  Sometimes, you need to change it up to keep your mind fresh to prevent creative clogs.  :-P   (In case you are interested in my Halloween items, you can see my progress at www.covenofcrones.blogspot.com.)

At any rate, my change of scenery brought me to the felting needles.   I thought, what the heck?  Why not give it a hand!  So, I decided to try my hand at some little garden gnomes.  I have to admit, it was kind of addicting but also a little tiring when you use a single needled to punch wool for hours on end for one little item.  HAHA   Anyway, my final results were so darn cute, that I have decided I will continue to do these needle felted garden gnomes when I have "down time" or need a change of pace.  The beauty of these little guys are that they are safe for little hands (unless I add buttons and such), the price is right, and they are light weight for shipping too! Not only that, but each one is a unique one-of-a-kind creation!

Allow me to introduce to you the beginning of the Garden Gnome Family here at The Pixie Knoll!  Here is a direct link to my Etsy store where you can find some cute little gnomes I have just added today.  You will also find a witch and a Christmas gnome too.  I will be adding more Halloween and Christmas gnomes along with more Garden Gnomes over time.  But, these are the first of many.  I have to tell you, pictures DO NOT do these gnomes any justice whatsoever!!!  These are cute as buttons.  They range from 8.5" to 11 inches in length and fit comfortably in your hand and stand on their own.  I hope you like the new Gnomes!  Enjoy!

Publication Announcement!

Hiya folks!

I just found out that I will be in the July 2015 issue of Pretty Toys Magazine!   YAY!!!!

Most of you may know already, but for those that do not, this is an internationally distributed magazine, which means it is published in many different languages and is far reaching.  How exciting is that!  In fact, my work is not only inside the magazine but my name landed on the front cover too!   I am super pleased to hear this news as you can imagine.  This makes the 3rd time I have made an issue of Pretty Toys Magazine and the 2nd time my name has been mentioned on the cover.  What an HONOR!

This magazine is a wonderful copy to hold in your hands. I admit, it is a bit pricey, but, it is chock full of wonderful eye candy of artist dolls from all around the world and hardly NO advertisement.  So what you get is cover to cover goodies to feast your eyes upon!  And that says a lot.  Not only that but the magazine is extremely well made with beautiful glossy heavy pages of gorgeous pieces of work.    You can buy either a digital copy or the hard copy.  Obviously, the digital copy is VERY budget friendly.  :-)   But there is just something about holding that fabulous publication in your hands that is gratifying beyond words.   To get your copy just go to:

Pretty Toys Magazine issue for July 2015. The release date is July 20th!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing the great news with me here at The Pixie Knoll.

It's Time To Vote!

That's right folks!  It's that time of year once again where we head out and vote for our favorite figurative art doll artist!

The People's Choice Award is a HUGE award among the doll artist because this is an award that is voted on by our collectors and peers, not a selected panel of judges.  Artist that are up for awards are those artist who have received the 2015 Dolls Awards in Excellence by Dolls Magazine back in June, 2015.

There is only ONE vote per household, and you can do it quickly on the internet at their website.  It only takes about 5 minutes of your time to go through the entire voting process.  There are a number of categories with figures listed in them ranging from artist play doll to one-of-a-kind artist dolls.  And, at the end, you get to select your favorite artist by writing their name in on an "write-in" ballot.
Where do you go to vote?  Well, that is the easy part.  Just head on over to www.dollsmagazine.com  and you should see the top portion of the page is designated for the People's Choice Award event.  Just follow the links and they will guide you through the voting order.  Very, very easy to do.

This year, my piece, "World Traveler" is up for People's Choice Award!  I hope that you will all do him the honor of selecting him in his category.  But, by all means, you are welcome to vote for who you like. :-D    So, GET OUT THERE AND VOTE and support your favorite doll artist!
